KUALA LUMPUR (January 4): Following the government’s announcement that National Higher Education Fund Corp (PTPTN) borrowers affected by Covid-19 may defer repayment of their loans for another three months, PTPTN said today that eligible borrowers can apply for this extension from tomorrow (January 5).

Eligible borrowers are those who have suffered losses or reduced income due to the effect of the pandemic, he said in a statement.

“Borrowers should submit the application through the official PTPTN portal to www.ptptn.gov.my/PelanjutanBayaranBalikCovid19 from January 5, 2021 until March 31, 2021. No supporting documents are required when applying, ”he said.

The three-month loan deferral extension will begin the same month the person’s application is approved by PTPTN, and borrowers will be notified of the approval by email within three business days of submitting their application.

“Borrowers are reminded to update their contact details to ensure that information regarding approval of extension requests can be passed to them,” added PTPTN.

On January 1, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said the decision to extend was taken because the government was worried and realized there were PTPTN borrowers who were still affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and would not be able to repay their loans.

Previously, the government announced a postponement of loan repayments for all PTPTN borrowers due to the Covid-19 pandemic, from March 19, 2020 to December 31, 2020.
